The Tortoise Shop is now closed. We will shortly be posting all of our informative pages to Facebook, ready for the closure of the website. These information pages will be extended to include anything we would normally answer over the phone, as well as the general FAQs. In the meantime, if you are unsure of anything, please refer to...
We have come into the office this morning to the awful news that our animal courier has ceased operating, with no prior warning and only the website notice to go by (see attached photo). This does not just effect us, this effects all animal businesses, shops, breeders, conservation, almost the entire country used Walkers for their animal transportation. We are in the same boat right now and we ask at this time of so many ongoing crisis' in people's lives, that if you can spare the fuel to collect your tortoise (rather than paying a £57.50 delivery fee), please choose pick up from store and we can get you booked in as soon as possible.
If you could take a moment to leave us a review publicly, it would help us greatly, as we reach what should be our busiest time of the year; Review The Tortoise Shop on Trust Pilot Review The Tortoise Shop on Google Review The Tortoise Shop on Facebook
Please take the time to read in full. This blog covers why a lot of your tortoises are sleeping all day and what you need to do when presented with extreme weather conditions like the forecast heatwave.
It has been brought to our attention that there is a Facebook page using our name and reputation to sell their tortoises. We want all to be aware that we do not work in conjunction with any other businesses, pages or groups. You will only ever receive replies from Gemma or Natalie through this page only, our official Twitter page and of course, through emails. You will never be forwarded a mobile number to contact someone else for collection, nor will anyone but Walkers European Transport deliver your tortoise. We will always send you to www.thetortoiseshop.com to place your order and will never request personal details or order numbers through Facebook.
We're excited to showcase our new products. Due to numerous requests, we have put together a package just for accessories. This accessory pack contains all the essentials you need for your tortoise table. This way, if you are buying a tortoise from us and a table from elsewhere, or building your own, you can still fill your table with our top quality products and our tortoise package style discounts. But don't forget, the discounts get bigger, as the package does, so the savings in our tortoise packages will always be greater, not just than other packages on our site, but than any other tortoise outlet online.
I know we're all getting sick of the current crisis talk, but it's reached that point where we all know someone effected by it. We just want to have a word about how you will feed your tortoise if you are told to self isolate. It may be tempting to buy pellets or feed your tortoise solely on dried flower supplements, but it is important to try to maintain their fresh diet. Here are some tips to help you feed your tortoise through isolation;
As you know, we do not sell our tortoises to just anyone. If you purchase a tortoise on it's own, without a complete setup (tortoise package). we will ask for photos of your tortoise table and lighting setup. This is solely to ensure that your baby tortoise gets the best start in life. To help you along your way, here are some of the tables we are often presented with
Following on from our Tortoise Housing blog. Here we will look at the different lighting setups available, which you will need for your new setup and which you should definitely avoid.
We are now online only, but that doesn't mean you get less of the experience. All our products can be delivered nationally and locally. And no matter where you are, you are always welcome to come and collect your tortoise order. Place all your items into your tortoise order and you can collect it all at the same time
Due to recent cuts within the company, we are now having to take the post to the nearest post office personally, on foot. This means that where we could normally put 1 or 2 postal items into a sack and have them picked up on our daily collection, we are now going to wait until we have filled a sack or the end of the week before making the trip. Postal orders may only be taken to the post office once a week, Friday. During busy periods, we will take post to the post office on a daily basis, if need be.
The only sure way to find your tortoise if it is lost or stolen is to microchip your tortoise. People are finding and keeping lost tortoises all over the country.
