comments:To get a tortoise was a very big decision for us and we shopped around untill our heads hurted. We always ended up back at the Tortoise Shop and always admired the Daisy house. After a very simple order form and really cheery conversation with one of the staff, we opted for the Daisy house and two horsfieds.They arrived we were bowled over by the house. It may feel expensive but worth every penny, especially for first time owners. As for our shellbabies, it was love at first sight. I\'m really glad i got a pair. I cannot thank the Tortoise shop enough for superb service, the creativity to come up with the Daisy house, and above all our newest family members. A huge five star thanks folks!!

comments:Me and my brother got Luigi and Ruby, two Horsfield Tortoises, in May 2008. They have been happy living indoors but love their outdoor adventures! They seem very happy and have grown quite a lot. They are very healthy and each have lovely characteristics! Luigi is extremely active and loves climbing if we put him on the sofa or duvet. Comments: Snowdrop as I decided to call my baby (he arrived the day before the rare Nov snow in 2005) is now 4½ and doing well. He loves being hand fed and enjoys all the new dandelion leaves on that lawn. He is also popular with any visitors I have as so few people have a tortoise nowadays. He is also quite nosey, and will often come up to the wire on his pen if I am about - quite an attention seeker really! Like my tortoise of years ago - Speedy - Snowdrop is good at forcasting the weather - if he goes to bed other than normal times - rain is on the way - unless its too hot, and strangely, he goes to bed then as well, even after having a bathe in his dish!

finally got around to leaving a message of thanks for brilliant service we have had from yourselves. Silent Bob the horsefield arrived on the 6th Sept and settled in brilliantly, ate from day one and loves being in the garden in the sun and loves his bath as long as it does not last more than 2-3 mins, whole family have fallen for the little guy who is now very much a part of the family. After living in Tenerife for many years we had tortoises roaming free, my children feed and cared for them when they came to visit over the years and it was a sad day when we left them behind to return back for good to the UK. We contacted the Tortoise shop and within weeks of speaking to them we received our 2 Horsfield Tortoises and their new Daisy the tortoise housing (Fab alternative to box standard homes) We have had them a few weeks now and they have made my 2 teenagers :-), both in excellent condition and A1 health, we called them Cosmo and Reptar! \"Dont ask!!!\" I reccomend this supplier to anyone looking for a tortoise,always their to answer any questions and prompt delivery. Hi, Les & Janine. This morning I received my baby Herman tortoise form you and she is sooooo gorgeous. Well worth the wait, Hermione enjoyed a welcome warm bath after her long journey followed by a quick bask before exploring her new home. After poddling around for some six hours and several pieces of sow thistle later it was time for another bath, a supper of clover and off to bed in her little house; plum tuckered out!! I have two baby tortoises who are called Thelma and Louise. They both have their own personalities. Thelma likes to eat first and will race to the food while Louise prefers to go at a slower pace. Recieved the most beautiful Tortoise in the world from The Tortoise Shop which I purchased for a present for my 15 year old son. We called the Tortoise Speedy as he wanders all over my sons room for a bit of exercise. He is feeding out of our hands and loves to be handled. I have just awoke my two Horsfields from their rather late 'first' hibernation and both are now 'back in action' and raring to go!! I must have driven both Les & Janine to distraction with my constant questions and worries - but as usual all my fears were put to rest with their excellent advise during what I felt to be a very worrying time. I followed all the tips etc., (as listed on this website)and hibernated my beloved torts using the 'refrigeration' method. I now know that if followed correctly my 'babies' will be just fine with all future 'sleeps' - once again a very BIG thankyou to THE TORTOISE SHOP for all their help.

I phoned you about 3 weeks ago, worried sick that the first tortoise was picking on the new baby tortoise (even although they were only a few months apart). You advised me to calm down and everything would settle, and just to make sure there was plenty food for both of them. I just wanted to say that I\'m so relieved that the two are so close now, and virtually sleep on top of each other, walk around the house together and watch after each other, if we lift one out of the pen until it is returned. It was the best decision ever, to have the second tortoise for company - and our little family is complete. The two children absolutely adore them and we couldn't have been give more demonstrative loving pets!! Many thanks once again for everything Les.

Comments : Received our Horsfield tortoise yesterday, I had originally decided to have a Herman hatchling but after talking to Les decided that having a two year old Horsfield would be less of a worry being a first time tortoise owner. 'John' has settled in well and devoures anything you put infront of him much like my 9 year old son Cameron. He is amazing and absolutely gorgeous. He runs around his home and is really fast. I can't take my eyes off him. This site is so good and everyone I have spoken to were so helpful and told me all the things I would need to consider now and when the tortoise is an adult. There was no hard sell and no pressure to buy. Thankyou thankyou thankyou for making a dream come true. As soon as I feel confident with John I will be getting him a friend and a bigger bedroom just incase!!!

Just thought I'd mention that I have just visited a reptile shop in the Birmingham area (out of curiosity, whilst visiting a relative) which sold various tortoises, all of which were housed in vivariums. They looked sad little things, not at all like my two Horsfield's purchased from The Tortoise Shop in March this year. My two babies are both healthy, lively and strong - unlike the torts in the vivariums, mine are kept as recomended by Les. Once again, thanks Tortoise Shop - your tort's are delivered in the best of health. My babies are loved and adored and provide hours of entertainment. I am so glad I came across your website. I had reserved a tortoise at a local garden centre.
I was told all the wrong info (use a fish tank, don't need to hibernate, can just eat dry food, shouldn't go outside and a heat mat is fine)
I can't be believe there is not a law banning these people from selling these animals! I could have bought one and caused it serious harm without knowing it.
This garden centre is brand new, clean and very fancy, I trusted them...never again. They wanted £289 just for the tortoise too!
I will be cancelling the order and buying one from you and telling the centre exactly what I think! I may even report them to RSPCA and see if they can at least go and educate these money grabbers!

I'd just like to say a huge thanks for everything - your professional and friendly service, and the excellent quality of the items.
My horsfield (Mr. Plod) arrived yesterday in great health, and within an hour of arriving he was already chomping on the different recommended food items in your guide book, and feeling at home.
He's been sleeping lots and enjoying lying under the basking lamp - hopefully the weather should perk up so he can go outside tomorrow into his outdoor pen.

Comments: Last September I purchased 3 baby Hermans along with an indoor housing unit having talked with Les and used his expertise to guide me.
My 3 boys decided to call them 'Crash, Bang and Wallop', and they certainly live up to their names! We keep the indoor unit in the corner of our living room for now while they are so little. We are able to watch them go about their business, dining, bathing and charging around, it's great and we all love them so much, they even go straight to bed when we switch off their light at night and say 'Bed Time', how cool is that!.
Now that the warmer weather has arrived we will be introducing them to their outdoor pen, for some nice lazy days in the sun.
Many thanks to Les and staff for their friendly and helpful advice when I have needed it.

my name is Shelley Jones and i am from the rhondda.
last august i bought a tortoise from a dealer who supplied me with a 2 year old hermanns tortoise for £150 along with all the paperwork.
we were told not to ever hibernate him, feed him 3 times a day, bath him twice a day, and he wrote down about 20 plants down on a sheet of paper which he gave us to feed him which were all on your poisonous plants list.
also he said to keep him in an old fishtank and to never let him outside untill he was atleast four years old.
we were also told to mostly feed him on tomatoes.
charlie (the tortoise) fell seriously ill after six months of having him when we saw white discharge pouring out of his eyes. then his eyes totaly crusted over. then we had to hand feed him because he wouldnt eat otherwise and after 6 weeks of treatment and spending £650 in the vets, he died.
i am now looking for another tortoise but i'm researching first but after looking at this site, i need look no more.
u have answered all of my queries and i am now building a large outdoor pen for my new tortoise. i have already built a 1m X 1m pen in my livingroom for him/her.
thanx for all the information.
once i've finished the large outdoor pen i will surely be purchasing a tortoise from "The Tortoise Shop."

I picked up Horace/Hatty Horsefield on the 5th April from Les' office, and was very nervous about the new addition to the family. As I am 66 years old, people think I am going mad to get a tortoise! However, he is well cared for and I have plenty of family that are looking forward to taking him when I go. I shal make provision in my will! He /she is a cute 2yr old and because my house is not centrally heated, I have him snugly living in a Vivarium with all the extras but watching his ventilation carefully with the advice of Les. I had a torty for some years when I was in my teens and early twenties but found him a good home when I moved, and now I enjoy having another one. It would be nice to hear from other Tortoise owners. Comments: Thanks for you advise and handy care manual. "Flash" has been with us since November and seems to be very happy. He eats and drinks regulary and gets plenty on exercise and scenary in our big garden when the weather permits He is happy trying a variation of food types as suggested - however particular treat that he is very keen (but very limited) is savoy cabbage! I just wanted to inquire if is should book annual vet check ups for Flash - just to make sure that every things is ok - or are there specifics that i can look out for? Many Thanks GILL
